A St. Valentine's Dance was arranged by the Youth Club which attracted a good crowd and everyone from the dancers to the spectators had a good night. An extra collection was taken to "encourage" the Band Locals to perform 'River Dance' - Michael Flaherty has never slept since! A brilliant night and a great start to our fundraising

Coffee evenings have usually proved popular in the past but even our expectations were exceeded on this occasion. Those responsible for making and serving the coffee were run off their feet and were pleased to receive extra help. A Home Baking Stall was very popular and the generosity of those providing and buying was incredible. The hall was packed for most of the night and laughter could be heard from all corners - which was great
June 2000
A Millennium photograph session was arranged for all the corps sections as well as "family" photographs. The venue was to be the Castle Green, but in true British fashion it poured down - has it ever stopped? The venue was then switched to our own hall and the photographer (who did not charge for his time) did a superb job. As well as a very good fundraising event we have a photographic record of the Citadel in the Year 2000

Inclement weather forced us to cancel a BBQ at the eleventh hour and this was rearranged for a few weeks later and guess what - it rained again! Not to be outdone this time, an alternative venue had been arranged (just in case) and the village hall in Kirkbride proved to be ideal. Yet again the organisers had planned well, the hall was packed - music was provided and we all ate too well. To add interest to the proceedings, everyone had been requested to wear a fancy hat and you should have seen some of them - yet another great night
July 2000
Over the last 20 years we have been privileged to host visits by Band and Songster Brigades from overseas and yet again we had been included on the itinerary of a touring Songster Brigade This time it was the visit of Sydney Staff Songsters who were in Britain as part of the ISS celebrations held in London. The Citadel was almost full which was excellent considering it was mid-week in the holiday season. The Brigade gave us a programme that will be remembered for a long time and the reception they received was magnificent Profits from the event were donated to the Band Instrument Scheme for which we were grateful
August 2000
The Cumbrian Walk was something different (see article in the Christmas "Citadel Times") but we would like to place on record our sincere thanks to those who participated - the support team and all the people who sponsored the event This was very hard work for the walkers but very much appreciated by us all
September 2000
The final event of the year was a "Progressive Supper" arranged by the Singing Company. To many this was a 'first' and hopefully not a 'last' People were invited to purchase a ticket which entitled them to go to different houses (pre-selected) for a starter, main course and sweet, followed by coffee/tea at the hall and a short musical programme by the Singing Company To those ladies who provided the food, our grateful thanks - what a great idea - thank you, Singing Company
